The brief
Make a founder stop scrolling. Her feed is wall-to-wall AI bubble-speak and people congratulating themselves. We are small, new and skint. Spend would lose. Being unmistakable might not.
The founder doesn't believe the odds
One in twenty startups ever scales.1 Tell a founder that and she nods politely and carries on. She doesn't think it applies to her. That's why she's a founder.
So we didn't sell her better odds. We made a film about who gets the help.
Enter the penguins
The emperor penguins are the establishment. Tall, magnificent, very good at what they do, and fully booked looking after the few already in the huddle.
The rockhopper is the founder. Small, spiky-haired, bursting with confidence. One of the crazy ones. If she'd wanted a real job she'd have got one.
The hole in the ice is the opportunity.
She didn't wait to be asked
The emperors stand and watch, sceptical. She dives in courageously, comes up with the catch, leaps clear and swaggers off. No patronage. No permission. No programme. The emperors can hardly believe it. A glance. It happened without them.
We call it She's a Scaler. Pixie says the line. The emperors never get to.
The joke we didn't make
Smug gatekeepers getting their comeuppance. Cheap laugh, false story. The establishment works brilliantly for the few it reaches; its problem is bandwidth, not character. So the emperors are never beaten, never shamed, and never get to bless her either. They look at each other, not at her, and realise they weren't needed.
We're not better than the establishment. We're for everyone it never got round to.
Deadly serious about a penguin
Shot like a wildlife documentary: long lens, golden hour, every feather in focus. The straighter the realism, the funnier the penguin. One wink: the opening card rates it S for Scaleup, approved for ambitious audiences only.
